Light soiling to original publisher's two-tone mustard and white cloth boards and spine. Seventh printing of Leonard Smithers Edition, 1899. 8°. 31 pages. Original Hardcover (Quarter vellum with mustard boards). This edition was printed on 23 June 1899 and was the first to reveal the author's identity, putting the name Oscar Wilde in square brackets under his cell number on the title page. A weekly collection of stories, a mixture of fiction and nonfiction along with social issues of the time. While Dickens was the editor and he did serialize a few of his stories through this magazine, it have several "unnamed" contributors. An American edition was published but not well received as it pertained to the English way of life not American. Complete London editions are scarce. A complete set bound in 3/4 contemporary red morocco over marbled paper covered boards with matching endpapers, all edges marbled., raised bands gilt, title within one compartment gilt. All hinges and joints are fine and tight, internally clean and bright without foxing. Some rubbing or darkening to bindings. From the library Joseph Greene with his armorial bookplate. A very nice set containing six of the nine extra Christmas numbers.

Near Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Extra-Illustrated Copy in Beautiful 'Cosway' Binding by Bayntun-Riviere This stunning, extra-illustrated book on celebrated courtesan and author Ninon de Lenclos is housed in a stunning, Cosway-style binding by Bayntun Riviere. Bound in full brown crushed morocco, spine with raised bands, oval portrait of Ninon de Lenclos at the height of her beauty inset under glass in front cover, spine and both covers beautifully tooled with stylized Art Nouveau flower designs (probably fuschias); gilt-tooled inner dentelles with floral designs at corners, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. A vibrant, fine copy aside from several surface scratches and small spots of wear; front cover a bit sunned. Housed in binder's velvet-lined green cloth clamshell box. Printed by Andrew Hoyem and Robert Grabhorn in San Francisco, and bound in publisher's tan linen cloth over blue paper-covered boards with errata slip tipped in at rear; in publisher's unprinted white dust jacket. Near Fine, with lean to spine, covers faintly marked. In a Near Fine dust jacket, lightly soiled and with light edge wear. An early long poem of Pound's, and his first attempt to write poetry using world history, and adding opinions of his own. Originally intended to be published in the 1911 first edition of Canzoni, Pound deemed it too serious, and removed it during the proof stage. It was not until 1967 when the poem was finally published, first in an Australian poetry magazine, then here for the first time in book format in a limitation of 110 copies. Octavo, bound in full red pebbled morocco, spine stamped in gilt in compartments, all edges and turn ins gilt, fore-edge painting with view of The Market Place, Cambridge. In very good condition.

The 9 originals volumes have been bound in 18 by the Riverside Press bindery (stamped at front). The bindings are a rich, vibrant red 3/4 morocco over marbled boards, the spines have raised bands and elegant gilt tiling, the top edges are gilt, and the endpapers are marbled, other edges are uncut. This is a fine, crisp set with only the slightest hints of wear. The set is illustrated with photogravures and steel engravings, and each of the 9 original volumes (Parts I of each of these paired volumes), have hand-colored frontispieces (9 in all). This is copy #174 of 750 numbered sets, printed on heavy handmade paper. This set has outstanding shelf presence.
