About This Item

Half calf ; gold titles on spines are rather dim; 6 compartments on spine with 5 embellishments and a title. Vols 1, 2, 3 have very old signatures and very small owner's library stamp. Opposite all engravings the paper is foxed but apart from the paper being uniformly tanned with age, there is no foxing. It appears that all vols are unread. VOL 1. "With a Criticism on His Writings" - Frontis, xii plus 370pp incl 2 Appendices and some poetry. VOL 2. VOL II . "General Correspondence Including Pieces of Miscellaneous Poetry. " 471pp including the last thing he wrote; Glossary. VOL III. xvi plus 414pp incl Glossary (which goes only up to 'Whid' making it appear that there is a missing page) VOL IV : xxvii plus 412pp incl Index to letters and Index to poems. The title p and the first p of the Preface have missing chunks - 75x75m- but that on the title p has been replaced. RESTORATIONS ; 1 board replaced and 5 boards have been re-affixed with new end papers where required. Original leather has been re-coloured and oiled. New marbled paper on covers. All corners strengthened. Missing pieces from 4 heads and 2 tails have been replaced with faux leather. The Editor apparently did a good bit of expurgation but still Burns' wonderful prose and poetry shines through. A handsome set. Please expect extra postage to overseas.

Terms of Sale

BOOKLOVERS PARADISE

30 day return guarantee, with full refund including original shipping costs for up to 30 days after delivery if an item arrives misdescribed or damaged. Please note we require a contact number and a physical address for delivery.
You will find the LOCATION of our Bookstore on Google. ALL our books are thoroughly cleaned. All books with dust jackets/ wraps are completely covered in 50 or 75 micron High Density PolyEthylene (= "plastic" = archival acetate film), as are books without dust jackets costing more than US$20. Soft-covers and hard-covers without Dj s are covered in adhesive plastic. While we have neither insects nor dampness in our shop, you might find that the total plastic cover keeps both at bay. Covering the whole book means that the common edge-wear described by so many dealers is mostly absent in our books. Any "plastic" is easily removable, it is not adhered to the book nor to the dust jacket. We do not use sellotape nor any other tape which discolours. We restore books where necessary and describe ONLY EXCEPTIONS to a perfect state. Faults in expensive books are described in huge detail. WHEN RESTORED the majority of "faults'' are visible only with great difficulty and certainly NOT in an image. To avoid misleading you we include few images. Please be guided by the very full descriptions. If no faults are described in a cheaper book, please be guided by the Condition. RESTORATION SERVICE. We restore any book younger than 1800 making your grotty, broken old books look like beautifully-cared-for precious old books. DUST JACKETS IN FACSIMILE. We provide colour copies of any DJ in our stock. Please ask for quotes, images & descriptions. We pride ourselves that THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL BOOKSH0P:- THE CROSSROADS OF CIVILIZATIONS PAST; REFUGE OF ALL THE ARTS AGAINST THE RAVAGES OF TIME; AN ARMOURY OF FEARLESS TRUTH AGAINST WHISPERING RUMOUR; INCESSANT TRIUMPH OF THE RIGHT-TO-KNOW.
