Three volumes complete - Volume One - [2], cxxiv, 288pp; Volume Two - [4], 427pp, [1] and Volume Three - [4], 370pp. Contemporary full tree calf, smooth back divided into six panels by gilt rules, morocco title label to second panel, volume number in gilt to fourth, old private library paper label to fifth, gilt roll to edges. Chipped to head of spines with small amount of loss, front joints split, holding on quite well to volumes one and three but volume two very weak, one or two minor abrasions to covers. Internally some minor browning, tear to bottom margin of N4 in volume one, otherwise generally fairly bright and clean. Engraved portrait frontispiece of Reynolds by Caroline Watson to volume one. Binding is by Birdsall of Northampton with their ticket to front pastedown of volume one. The second edition, first in octavo format after the quarto first edition of 1797. Second Edition. Full Calf. Good. Illus. by Watson, Caroline. 8vo.
