A beautiful thirty-two volume collection of the romances, tales and novels of Sir Walter Scott, in a leather binding. Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish novelist and poet. Scott remains a celebrated figure in Scottish literary history, and the landscape of Scotland features heavily in his works. He was also a political figure, prominent within the Tory establishment, and served as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh for twelve years, between 1820 and 1832. He was a member of Clan Scott, a prominent Scottish clan. This set comprises of thirty-two volumes, and comprises novels including 'Waverley', 'Rob Roy' and 'Ivanhoe'. "Novels and Tales" (1819) spans twelve volumes, and contains "Waverley", "Guy Mannering", "Antiquary", "Rob Roy" and "Tales of My Landlord". "Historical Romances" (1822) spans six volumes and contains "Ivanhoe", "Monastery", "The Abbot" and "Kenilworth". "Novels and Romances" (1824) spans seven volumes and contains "The Pirate", "The Fortunes of Nigel", "Peveril of the Peak" and "Quentin Durward". "Tales and Romances" (1827) spans seven volumes and contains "St. Ronan"s Well", "Redgauntlet", "Crusaders" and "Woodstock". Each volume has an vignette illustration to the title page.Bound by Hunt & Sons.A charming collection by an extremely important and prolific Scottish writer. In a half calf binding. Externally generally smart, with some rubbing to the spines and extremities. A chip to the head of the front board of volume X. Ownership inscriptions to the front endpaper of "Novels and Tales" vol IV, V, "Historical Romances" I and II, and "Tales and Romances" vol IV. Internally firmly bound, pages have the occasional spot which is more noticeable to the first and last pages, in particular the title pages. Very Good Indeed
