Description:
London: Ward & Downey, 1891. 1st ed. . Dark Cloth. Good+/No Jacket. 14cms X 19.5 Cms. xx+295; front hinge repaired a little crudely with black tape (as endpapers are black it does not show too badly), small mongram label BSG top corner front pastedown, paper split to rear gutter, otherwise internally clean, unmarked and reasonably tight; covers moderately worn - thin strip of cloth gone at head of hinge, joints rubbed in places with a few close cloth splits a number of faint light surface marks. An interesting and varied collection of papers and essays mostly previously published in Westminster Review or Journal of the Anthropological Institute. They are all concerned with some aspect or other of human origins and the evolution of culture, with chapters on the origins of agriculture, metallurgy music, skull-trephining in the Neolithic, symbolism, mythology, migrations, divination and human antiquity. Fairly uncommon.
