viii+192 pages with diagrams and indices. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine and gilt pictorial to cover in original jacket. (Lusis: 1384) First edition. The full match scores of every series have been collected into a single volume. Clearly presented with diagrams of the critical match potions and with succinct annotations, organized and edited by Robert Wade, complete with indexes of players and variations. Svetozar Gligoric has known all these champions and it is from firsthand experience that he reveals the clash of their contrasting temperaments. From his observation and analysis, Botvinnik emerges as the technical perfectionist, Bronsein is master of psychology and Smyslov as the most assured; Tal displayed brilliance while Petrosian triumphed through his positional knowledge and in turn yielded to the new champion Boris Spassky. Condition: Previous owner's name on front end paper. DW corners and spine ends chipped, price clipped, front head edge closed tears with creases.
