About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: E.P. Dutton & Co., Inc., 1957. First, Thus . Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. Shepard, E. H. . Lovely vintage boxed hardcover set from 1957 has 2 books: "The World of Pooh" marks the first appearance in one volume of two classic Pooh stories-- "Winnie-the-Pooh" (1926) & "The House at Pooh Corner" (1928). Likewise for "The World of Christopher Robin," which contains both "When We Were Young" (1924) & "Now We Are Six" (1927).Both volumes were also unique in that they contained "decorations & new illustrations by E. H. Shepard, " comprising both full-page color plates, smaller pen-and-ink drawings, & colorful map endpapers showing the layout of the Hundred Acre Wood ("Pooh") & character from the tales ("Christopher Robin"). In 314 & 234 pages, respectively, each hardcover 8vo (6.50" x 9.25") is bound in light cloth (Pooh = tan, Christopher = blue) over boards, stamped with Shepard illustrations to front & lettering to spine. Condition on both books is Fine: virtually flawless! Completely clean & bright, bindings strong & straight, hinges intact, pages creamy white & completely unmarked. The unclipped DJs show a tad of wear (chipping, creasing, 1 unclosed tear at edge of spine) at corners &/or spine tips, else bright & colorful with no fading. The box is VG- (minus): rarely found intact, it is sturdy & bright, with a small nick on the "Christopher" front paste down, minor nicks & rubbing to extremities, starting to split at lower edges near opening. A gorgeous set in collectible condition! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually own! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends, & holidays ship very next business day. SORRY: set is too large for expedited domestic or any international shipping without preapproval of extra shipping (at least double per USPS rates).
