Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, Ltd., 1932. Hardcover. Good/Acceptable. 1932. No Edition Remarks. 101 pages. Illustrative jacket over red cloth. Pages and binding are presentable with no major defects. Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Unclipped jacket has heavy edgewear with some areas of loss, heavy tears, chips and, creasing. Visible tanning to spine. Noticeable rubbing to surfaces.

Second edition and first printing, In very good bright dark tan cloth boards, black titles to front and back strip. The covers are very tight, straight and clean. The end papers are unmarked; small green Foyles sticker to front paste down. Quite clean cut edges. The text block is in very good condition - tightly bound and with no tanning or foxing or marks. Without any inscriptions etc. In good white dust jacket with blue titles; grubby, edges a little chipped, with a few tiny open and closed tears. Not price clipped.

An interesting little volume -- not, as its title might imply, a screenwriting how-to manual -- but rather a kind of guide to how the film industry (primarily the British) works, with an emphasis on how stories are selected and developed for the screen. The first chapter is called "The Present Studio Policy," and gives a pretty good snapshot of the business in the early years of the Great Depression. Subsequent chapters are: "Choosing the Public's Pictures"; "Adaptation"; "Authors and Studios"; and "Is a Revolution in Method Coming?" Appendix A is a sample British studio contract for the purchase of a literary property; Appendix B is a fold-out chart showing "the distribution of work and duties in a typical studio."
