About This Item

Photo album of US Army troops stationed in Alaska, near Seward. 58 black and white silver gelatin photographs. Photos mostly measure around 3.5" x 6". Circa 1945. It is possible that this unit was part of the 153rd Infantry Regiment, which was posted to various locations within Alaska, including Seward. Additionally, there are several photos of a dance held for the troops with a jazz band whose music stands are adorned with "153" and an emblem. Has an opening section of memory leaves, where fellow troops could drop a line and their home address to stay in touch. Four photos of steamships, including the S.S. Baranof, S.S. Alaska, S.S. Denali, and the S.S. Columbia, captured in Alaska's Inside Passage and at Taku Glacier. Several photos of the men standing at attention, holding their rifles, as well as building wooden structures in the Alaskan wilderness. The cover features a team of Alaskan sled dogs hand-painted on leather, captioned "The Malamute Limited." In very good condition overall.
