A first edition copy of this thrilling and suspenseful spy novel by Len Deighton, best known as one of the top three spy novelists of his generation. Set in 1979, and hence roughly contemporaneous with when the work was first published, this novel concerns an attempt by a group of former SS officers to seize power in West Germany, and their attempt to publish wartime documents about a (fictional) secret meeting between Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler in June 1940. However, their plans are repeatedly thwarted through the efforts of a British agent, Boyd Stuart, who is tasked with preventing the documents from becoming public. Complete with original unclipped dustwrapper. Condition: In the publisher's original cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, lovely. Dustwrapper lovely, with slight fading to spine, and slight marking to joint of rear flywrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout, with the odd spot to the fore edge of the occasional page, only visible to textblock. Overall Condition: Fine in a Fine dustwrapper.
