About This Item

London: Printed by Richard Hodgkinson, 1640. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Quarto. 19cm x 16cm. There are several works bound together and a bibliographical conundrum, but it is all complete. The first work is 'XV Choice Sermons' which has a general title page followed by a second title 'Choice Sermons' then several separate title pages including 'XI Choice Sermons' and 'Sixe Sermons'. There are then 3 further works bound next which were published, as here, separately, and also under a general title 'Seaven Sermons'. For reference the STC numbers of the works are STC S117835, STC S107579, STC S100499, STC S101822. Collates complete including all blanks as [12], 156, [2]; 32, 64; [16], 104; [8], 131, [1], [8], 37, [5], 49-76, [8], 55, [1]; [8], 68pp Gorgeous original C17th boards, sometime sympathetically rebacked over raised bands with label. There is a marginal paper fracture on one leaf otherwise the pages are very good, occasional marks. Binding is very tight and overall a complete and attractive example of Stoughton's canon of sermons.
