1789, 1876 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A comprehensive history of the eighteenth century in France, illustrated profusely throughout, written by the French journalist Paul Lacroix. This work looks at turbulent eighteenth century France from the years 1700 to 1789, discussing the years leading up to the infamous French Revolution and the Reign of Terror. Some of the subjects discussed in this work include the lives of the nobility, King and the court, the bourgeoisie, and the army, as well the the parliament, commerce, finance, charity, education, Paris, justice, theatres, society, kitchen, travel, and fashion. Written by Paul Lacroix. Lacroix was a French author and journalist, best known by the pseudonym 'Bibliophile Jacob'. He also wrote 'The Middle Ages and Renaissance', 'Historical Costumes of France from the most Authentic Monuments', and more. Illustrated with a frontispiece, thirty-one plates, and numerous in-text engravings. Undated, dated from Copac from copies held at the Sheffield Hallam University. Collated, complete. Condition: In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine, with a very small amount of the spine lifting to the head of the front joint. Some spots to the fore edge. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots, mostly to the first and last few pages. Overall Condition: Very Good.
