About This Item
Mánes (The Mánes Association of Fine Artists) was an important artists' organization, founded in 1887 in Prague. It gained significance for its international exhibitions that catalyzed interaction between Czech and foreign avant-garde artists. It also played an important role in the development of Czech Cubism. Foreign members of the association included Auguste Rodin, Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali and architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius. S.V.U. Mánes was dissolved after After WWII not to revive until 1990.
