About This Item

Charles L. Webster & Company, 1889 Early issue with some of the points of the first edition, first issue but not all. Has "s" ornament in the caption of the plate on p.59, between the words 'The' and 'King'. Broke type on page 72. Two pages of advertisements in the back. Half title page on verso of frontispiece. Original publisher's olive cloth, pictorially blocked in blue, gilt and black. Original pictorial olive-green cloth, front panel stamped in black, blue-gray, and gold, spine panel stamped in gold, blue-gray endpapers with floral pattern printed in gold. Illustrations by Dan Beard. Owner's book plate on inside cover. Owner's dated (1889) gift inscription on first fly leaf. Offset on pages xiv and xv from paper scrap used as book mark. The binding has separated from the book. The front board is almost completely torn from the spine and the top of the rear board is beginning to separate at well. No repairs to this binding have been attempted and is priced with the assumption that necessary repairs to this volume would make a nice copy of this early issue. Additional photos available upon request. I take great care in shipping all books; this book will be packed in a well cushioned box.. Hardcover. Poor.

Synopsis

The original American satiristCracked on the head by a crowbar in nineteenth-century Connecticut, Hank Morgan wakes to find himself in King Arthur's England. Branded by Twain's aptitude for broad comedy and biting social satire, the grim truths of Twain's Camelot-fear, injustice, ignorance-resound as clearly now as when it was written
