Books from the library of Allan Heywood Bright, whose maternal uncles were Henry Yates Thompson (1837-1928), and Samuel Ashton Thompson Yates (1842-1903). Both gave books and manuscripts to Bright, Henry's gifts including a 13th-century Bible inscribed 'every collection of M.S.S. should have one of these'. From the introduction: "The emergence of an important portion of the manuscripts and printed books after so many years has allowed several remarkable discoveries in the preparation of this catalogue. They demonstrate the wealth, range and interest of this collection: a superb manuscript Missal illuminated for the Patriarch of Aquileia by a peerless Viennese artist at the Habsburg court; lurking among the emblem books, an album of prints with their preparatory drawings by Hans Bol; the unique complete copy of a Middle English treatise; an exquisite humanistic manuscript made for the King of Naples and an entirely new work by the French female Renaissance author Catherine d'Amboise.
