Synopsis

In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson is a book by author Bette Bao Lord. It tells the story of a Chinese girl, Shirley Temple Wong, who must adjust to her life in the USA after receiving a letter from her father telling her that they are moving to Brooklyn. Shirley is placed in P.S. 8's 5th grade class. Shirley is bullied by a girl in her class named Mabel. One day after receiving a black eye from Mabel something turns Mabel and the two become friends.
