About This Item

First Edition/First Printing with the "A" and the Scribner's seal on the copyright page, in the first issue jacket with the summary on the back panel; A Near Fine book in a Good dust jacket. An outstanding copy of this Pulitzer winning novel, which was the best selling novel of 1938, and was the basis for the excellent movie starring Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman. This copy is in near fine condition with a square, tight binding, bright green lettering on tan boards, and crisp, clean pages; the book does show some darkening to the spine edges, a light push to the lower spine end, a PO signature to the front free paper, and moderate foxing to the paste downs and end papers. Housed in a clean and bright ORIGINAL dust jacket that shows one long closed tear along the front spine fold, a shorter closed tear at the rear spine head fold, moderate rubbing and chipping at the spine ends and corners with a small loss of material, and a few small closed tears along the edges. Overall, a book that presents very well even with the few flaws of the jacket; a presentable, collectible copy; uncommon in this condition in the original first issue dust jacket. Not price clipped ($2.50 intact) and not ex-library; in a fresh mylar cover and ships in a sturdy box.

Synopsis

The Yearling is a 1938 novel written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. It won the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1939. Rawlings's editor was Maxwell Perkins, who also worked with F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and other literary luminaries. She had submitted several projects to Perkins for his review, and he rejected them all. He instructed her to write about what she knew from her own life, and the result of her taking his advice was The Yearling.
