About This Item

Otley: William Walker, 1830. 24 pp. Good with a bit of conservation to stabilize the wraps. Worldcat locates 4 copies of this edition. Bateman was a thief, fortuneteller, healer, murder and even a follower of Joanna Southcott. As a follower of Southcott she swindled people by convincing them that the eggs she exhibited for a penny had messages on them about the second coming of Christ. She was eventually hung after being convicted of murder.
