[San Francisco]: N.p., [ca. 1880]. Original oil on canvas. Sight size of 52 x 30 inches in a frame measuring 62 x 41 inches. Small chip to frame and minor expected crazing to painting but a beautiful and monumental painting of Yosemite. Jerome D’Arcy was a landscape and marine painter, in San Francisco 1857-1886 with studio at 107 Fifth St. He’s listed in the SF City Directory in 1886. San Jose Museum of Art and Oakland Museum have some of his works. This painting is probably earlier than 1886 as it shows is the old Mariposa Trail coming into Yosemite. This was the trail the Mariposa Battalion rode in on in 1851 and this use of this trail largely stopped in 1875 when the original Wawona Road cut through it. This painting would require an art shipper due to its size.
