About This Item
New York: George H. Doran Company, 1917. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good+. Blue cloth boards with a black title block and gilt lettering on spine; author's signature stamped in blind on front cover. Publisher's device on title page. Abraded blemish on front pastedown where a name has been erased; small soil spot on first page of chapter one; some light penciling in margins; else interior is clean. viii, 377 pages. 7.5 x 5.2 inches. The only novel by George Amos Dorsey (1868-1931), the American ethnographer of Plains Indians and Professor of Anthropology at the University of Chicago. Several reviewers at the time of its publication in 1917 described it as a ''sexual'' novel which described, and with perhaps an inappropriate candor, the affairs of a young man with members of the opposite sex. Others describe it as an ''anthropological'' novel of a modern young man.
