The Youth's Companion 1850-1855

This is a massive, custom three-quarter leather bound volume of 169 issues of "THE YOUTH'S COMPANION" newspaper/magazine from the 1850's. Although the label on the front cover states "1852-1855," one issue from 1850 is included. "A Family Paper, Devoted to Piety, Morality, Brotherly Love - No Sectarianism, No Controversy." The Youth's Companion was a weekly magazine/newspaper published by Nathaniel Willis in Boston from 1827 to 1929. Each issue contains 4 pages and features an engraving on the first page. Scarce find with this many early issues in this condition.

Condition:
Light wear to the label on the front cover; tear to the leather at the lower-right corner of the front cover; wear to the corners and the top edge of the spine; some scuffing to the leather on the spine. The volume is nicely bound with no cracks and no loose pages. Antique owner's bookplate affixed to front pastedown. Light soiling to the end papers. The issues are in great condition with only occasional foxing. A name written in pen appears at the upper-outer edge on random pages throughout the volume (the name written matches the name on the bookplate). Overall the volume is in very good condition.
