London: Herbert Jenkins, 1954. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. First Printing of First UK Edition. Original blue boards with red lettering spine. Fading spine, slight age browning to pages, no foxing, no previous owner names or writing on any pages, sold binding. The book measures 20cm tall x 13cm and has 191 pages, 15 b/w photos, map. First ascent of the highest peak (6617m, via W Face & S Ridge) in Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru by a group of Harvard (& 2 Stanford) students that included George Bell. Summit team had accident on descent, injuries, forced bivi, survival. Accurate description of broken promises & treachery by locals who had been hired to help in the evacuation. One member lost all of his toes to frostbite. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
