VG. 4.5" x 3" A very good copy. leather bound with flap, however clasp for the flap is missing. cracked rear joint and missing rear end paper. has a poem glued to the front paste down and previous owners ex-libre sticker on the rear paste down. Original owners name and date (1847) written in ink on first blank page. Leather is wornand supple with wear consistant with age. Many pages have the outer edge somewhat folded due to the end flap. A very nice small bible.

Hardcover. 32mo; G/no DJ; Hardcover w/out DJ; Spine, brown with gold print; Boards in brown leather, wear to corners and spine caps, tear along front hinge, scuffing, surfaces tears at top of front, slight staining; Text block has tanning and pencil doodles to endpapers, name in ink on second leaf of front endpapers, slight amount of foxing throughout, else clean and tight; Old and New Testaments each have separate engraved title page and frontispiece; viii, 587, 190 pages. Red gilt and blind stamped hard cover, illustrations and 6 plates (2 of which are frontispieces for each testament), three chambers on spine, gilt stamp of praying woman on front and back cover, gilt forage. "The form in which this volume no appears is altogether different from anything which has before been given to the Public, but its originality will be found pre-eminently to consist in a laborious and entirely new Selection and Arrangement of References, in which it has been endeavoured faithfully to exhibit the Scripture as its own Expositor" -Preface. 4 1/2" x 3" inscribed, some staining on cover and toning.

London: Samuel Bagster Book. Very Good. Full Leather. 24mo - Mini. Circa 1843. With special title-page: "Was presented to Mr. Andrew Somerville by the Sabbath School Teachers' Association of North Leith - As a small token of their respect and gratitude for his zeal and diligence while acting as their secretary." A very nice copy of this handsome mini edition, having five raised bands and gilt lettering on spine, all edges gilt, deep purple feps and pastedowns, and gilt dentelles with lettering at front reading, "Bagster's Binding" (thus original printer's binding). Some loss of gilt to edges of text block, corners and some areas of edges rubbed to boards, tiny chip at crown of backstrip, and some evidence of dampstain affecting ffep, front pastedown, and title-pages. Northampton & Buffalo: J. H. Butler / T. & M. Butler. Good+ with No dust jacket as issued. 1835. Hardcover. Original dark brown leather somewhat rubbed gilt title. Moderate edgewear and rubbing. Spine lightly creased. A few small chips at spine ends, worn corners, and small split starting near middle of front joint. Lightly speckled and soiled text block. Binding somewhat tender and cracking in a few places. Interior lightly toned and foxed. Print is very small, capitals being only 1mm tall. B/w engravings. Previous owner name and brief note in ink to ffep. No stickers or stamps. ; 32mo 4" - 5" tall; 856+259 pages .

Northampton: J H Butler, 1835 Early imprint bound in full calf with six gilt bands on spine, board edges gilt, 856 and 239 pp., numerous illustrations. There is light rubbing at extremities, occasional foxing. Book handles like it hasn't been fully read Exemplary condition with tissue guard still present, though torn, between
the frontis and decorative title page with decorative title proceeding a second title page. Truly rare to find a book from this period in this condition.

Springfield: Published by Chapin Bridgman & Co., 1848.. Hardcover. Good. Duodecimo. Two parts in one volume. Engraved title-pages added. Bound in light brown calf, with fold-over tassel. Title stamped on spine. Pocketbook or wallet binding. Illustrated with frontispieces. On pocketbook bindings, see Maser. He says that "pocketbook bindings were occasionally used for small dictionaries but most frequently for church books of various sorts.
