Prof. Le Strange (1854 - 1933) was the leading British Orientalist of his time who specialized in the historical geography of the premodern Middle East and eastern Islamic domains. This is the first edition of the reprint by Khayats Beirut of his classic 1890 anthology and translations of contemporary writings of Islamic scholars and travelers about the lands, architecture, geography and peoples in the region, particularly in Syria and Palestine. Includes map of Syria and Palestine in the Middle Ages times according to the descriptions of Arab geographers.
