This book was not intended for public release, it was a son's diary written day-by-day for his mother. The tone of the work is at variance with Sturt's own publication, being enthusiastic, grief stricken, angry, fearful and frustrated by turns (as opposed to the impersonal and unemotional publication by Sturt). Though factually correct in most particulars of the journey "... his sensitive observation, warm sympathy for the natives, and remarkable command of language provide a picture whose vividness Sturt's official account can seldom match." -- from the front fold of the panel blurb. Rubbing of the lower book edges and there is faint fading of all edges of the book. Light age toning of the text block edges and pages.
