Franklin Library, 1976. First Edition. Hardcover First Edition 294 p. : ill.; 24 cm. Includes Illustrations. At head of title: The First Edition Society. Brown leather with gold embossed designs, three raised bands on the spine, gilt-edged pages and a satin ribbon placeholder. There is minor shelf wear and a small, slightly discolored spot on the cover, otherwise clean and unmarked. Publisher's insert laid in.

'These stories, thematically related, are arranged chronologically from 1630 and are designed to trace, by the use of fiction and dramatized history, the rise and fall of the Puritan ethic in New York and New England'.
