About This Item
London, UK Leicester University Press, 1964. Paperback Very Good in Wraps: shows no wear at all, but does show a small section of dampstaining at the lower corner of the covers and all the pages of the text; this has also imparted a faint waviness to the pages at that point; there is an even smaller, fainter dampstain at the heel of the backstrip of the cover only; binding square and secure; text clean. DJ price clipped; small, faint patch of sticker shadow at the upper corner of the front panel; faint dampstaining along the bottom of the backstrip. Backstrip shows former owner's carefully hand printed titles in red ink. Remains clean, sturdy, presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. 51pp. Faksimiledruck Herausgegeben mit Anhang und Nachwort von Hugh Powell. PBK: French Wraps [with DJ]. Johann Elias Schlegel (January 17, 1719 August 13, 1749) was a German critic and dramatic poet. Schlegel was a contributor to the Bremer Beiträge and for some time, while he was living in Denmark, edited a weekly periodical, Der Fremde. With his dramas as well as with his critical writings he did much to prepare the way for Lessing, by whom his genius was warmly appreciated. He wrote two lively and well-constructed comedies, Der Triumph der guten Frauen and Die stumme Schönheit, the former in prose, the latter in alexandrines. Hermann and Canut (both in alexandrines) are generally considered his best tragedies.
