Red cloth with title in gilt to spine, top edge stained red, stated first, 8vo (8-3/4 inches tall) pp. 324, index, illustrated with 7 B&W plates and a frontis. Volume with some toning and foxing to preliminary and terminal leaves, slight tilt to spine, spotting to top edge stain, circular sticker ghost and small abrasion to title page, else very good throughout. Price-intact DJ is toned with wear, tears and three old paper reinforcements at top edge verso. "...a panoramic survey of popular literature from the start to the close of the Victorian era." from the front flap.
