Niles began collecting the folk music of his native Kentucky before World War One, and later recorded and published many of the songs he collected, becoming an important source of the 'folk music revival'. This book collects ballads from the hills of Kentucky, Tennessee, & Virginia, many little changed from their English country origins. Stated first printing (first edition) with date on the title page. Hardcover, full green cloth with white & light green titling & decoration. Light wear to book; jacket a bit loose with chipping & edgewear, worn spine with some loss to the ends. Text clean; xxii, [2], 369 pages; indexes, b/w drawings, musical notation.
