Description:
London: Richard Bentley, 1863. vi and 425 pages. Colour lithograph of New Plymouth by Hanhart, plan of operations round Taranaki. Publisher's blind stamped green cloth with a gold vignette of a warship on the spine; binding slightly shaken but still sound, a very good copy.. Sir James Alexander of the 14th Foot commanded the forces in Auckland in the war of 1860-1861. This copy has a prize label on the front endpaper (Leek Commercial School Prize for Mathematics - see photo 7) and an apparently unrelated ink ownership stamp (Tamworth Agricultural College - see photo 6). There are no other ownership markings or inscriptions.
