Original blue cloth, dustwrapper. Minor spotting to the top edge of the text block, else the book and the dustwrapper are in very good condition (dustwrapper price-clipped).

No slipcase. Pages are bright and clear with no visible markings. Binding throughout remains firm. Boards have light edge wear with minor corner bumping. Mild crushing to spine, with occasional markings overall.

Volume 1 of 2-volume set; 382 p., clean and unmarked anywhere on strong unaged paper; slight rubbing in front gutter--no breaks; beautiful b&w ill., one assumed from the 1826 edtion o which the Folio edition is based; clean blue and white marbled boards with blue leather spine with raised bands; gilt lettering is still bright; despite absence of slip case edge wear is minimal.

Yale University: R. Hunter Middleton, 1976. "This impression from the original engraved boxwood block, now in the collection of the Newberry Library in Chicago, has been taken by R. Hunter Middleton as a keepsake for guests at the Carl Purington Rollins Lectures on the Typographic Tradition, Yale University, April 1976. Printed on a sheet measuring about 8 x 10 inches, in a gray paper portfolio with a printed label on the front. Fine condition. Middleton was a type designer and art director; he also was a collector of Bewick, and gave a number of original Bewick engraved blocks to the Newberry Library. Number of copies is unknown.

Publishers' faux leather in dark green and royal blue respectively, with silver and gilt titles and vignettes to spines and wood-grain and marbled effect endpapers, in price-clipped pictorial dust-jackets. Boards bruised to lower edge and top edges a little dusty (both volumes) otherwise clean bright copies; no annotation or inscriptions. Jackets lightly toned, and creased top edge. A Very Good set. This edition, Volume One only, "...contains about 20 additional vignettes, not before published, which were designed and engraved by Bewick, being part of a series intended by him as embellishments for a History of British Fishes, on which he was engaged at the time of his death.".

Volume I is missing its title page: first leaf is an advertisement, followed by the preface & introduction. B&W engraved cuts throughout both volumes.
