In original flexible boards with complicated series of jackets and wrap-arounds. Light rubbing to the extremities, contents clean. Generally, a very good+ copy, signed and dated by Bukowski in silver ink, "5/25/1963." This is the first in the Gypsy Lou series #1. True to the Loujon Press, this present work is a complicated and interesting piece of printing and binding. In flexible boards with pictorial jacket around which is an additional outer yellow, pictorial jacket with wrap-around—patterned Japanese paper separates the inner and outer jackets at the front panel. Mounted to the front of this is printed, orange cork to the front and rear panel and wrap-around flap are printed in black and purple. The preliminaries are of a graduating length, each leaf printed on differently colored paper. This copy comports with what Dorbin identifies as state 1 of the…

Bukowski's most beautifully produced book and the crowning achievement of the Loujon Press. One of 777 copies signed by the author, issued as Gypsy Lou Series no. 1. This copy is a scarce example in which Bukowski has included an original drawing and written a unique aphorism above his signature, 'I hear the trash-truck downstairs now - 2:30 A.M. - the rats sniggle and flick in their disturbed life of glass + paper + tin. Other rats sleep on to an alarm clock awakening. Charles Bukowski 2-5-64'. The final leaf has also been inscribed, 'No man truly believes that he will ever die. Description:
New Orleans: Loujon Press, 1963. First Edition. An attractive copy of Bukowski's first full-length collection of poems, and the first book produced by Jon and Louise Webb's New Orleans-based Loujon Press. A distinguished copy, marking Bukowski's lifelong, contentious relationship with author, collaborator, and Beat Generation personality Harold Norse (1916-2009). The most significant of their early appearances came in the 1969 publication Penguin Modern Poets 13 - a high-profile appearance, which gave Bukowski broader exposure both in Europe and in the U.S. A warm, contemporary association of real merit, in a significant early…
