Description:
Toronto: The Musson Book Company Limited, 1922. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Later printing. Very good or better with a neat gift inscription on the front free endpaper, some offsetting to the endpapers, pages evenly toned throughout, and some bumping overall, in a worn, good only dust jacket with a large chip to the top of the front panel affecting the title, and a large chip to the bottom of the rear panel, also affecting the text. Janey Canuck was the pseudonym of Emily Murphy, a Canadian writer and women's rights activist. Appointed in 1916, she was the first woman magistrate in Canada and in the British Empire. Among her well-known contributions to feminism was her work with The Famous Five, insisting that women be considered "qualified persons" under Canadian law, which would enable them to serve in the Senate, a case they eventually won. Alas, she also believed in eugenics and, partially because of her strong campaigning, the Sexual Sterilization Act of 1928 was passed in Alberta, Canada.

Description:
Toronto: Hodder & Stoughton, Limited, 1914. Hardcover. Very Good. First Canadian edition. Color frontispiece, illustrated in black and white. Green cloth over boards stamped in black with gilt lettering. With a portrait of the author laid down on the front pastedown, offsetting a bit onto the front fly. Tiny splits at the spine ends and top corners just rubbed through, a bright, near fine copy save that the bottom corners have been heavily bumped, causing tiny tears and a bit of the bottom corner of the cover's board to break off (but present). Thus very good. Inscribed by the author on the front fly: "Marcia J. Stevenson, from her sincere friend, Janey Canuck / 'Good morning, My Friend! I have been lonely for you.' -page 63.'" Janey Canuck was the pseudonym of Emily Murphy, a Canadian writer and women's rights activist. Appointed in 1916, she was the first woman magistrate in Canada and in the British Empire.
