Library copy, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Black and white photographs and illustrations throughout. Binding remains firm. Pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Tape marking to endpapers and pastedowns. Boards have light shelf-wear with corner bumping. Slight crushing to spine ends. Tape marking to both boards. Unclipped jacket has heavy edgewear with areas of loss, heavy tears, chips, and creasing. Tape marking to flap edges. Light tanning overall.

Square octavo, navy-blue hardcover, black lettering on spine, x, 84 pp., frontispiece, each chapter heading illustrated with a black-and-white drawing, five plates of black-and-white reproductions of paintings. Spine ends bumped, top spine end rubbed, top corners of covers bumped, light foxing throughout, dust-jacket worn and torn along edges and folds, top spine end of dust-jacket torn with some loss of text; otherwise a very good copy with a good dust-jacket. First edition. Cecil Lewis, a scout pilot in the Royal Flying Corps, reminisces about his time flying 24 different early aircraft between 1914-1918 and during World War One. The aircraft he flew and loved includes the Sopwith Spad, the Nieuport Scout and the Vickers Vimy. The illustrations are by Leonard Bridgman, who was also a pilot during World War One.

ROYAL AIR FORCE (RAF) who flew in World War I. He co-founded the British Broadcasting Company and enjoyed a long career as a writer. Signed and dated (in the year of publication) by the author.
