SIGNED BY CHARLES BUKOWSKI (3-17-65....St. Patrick's Day) opposite the colophon (Gypsy Lou Series #2), which states: "Thirty-one hundred copies of this first edition of CRUCIFIX IN A DEATHHAND, handset in Bulmer Roman. The book was edited, designed, painted and handbound by Loujon Press, editors Louise and Jon Webb". A clean, sharp copy, Tight and VG+ to Near Fine in its lovely, multi-colored pictorial wrappers. One small closed tear along the lower flap-fold, otherwise clean as could be. Along with 1963's "It Catches My Heart in Its Hand", "Crucifix in a Deathhand" dazzled the poetry world with the beauty of its composition. These 2 Loujon Press creations, both lovingly created by the Webbs (at great personal cost), opened up the collecting world to Bukowski's body work and introduced an essential new segment of the reading audience to the power and greatness of his writing.

A Near Fine copy in the publisher's printed wrappers with Very Good paper wraparound band. Wrappers feature illustration of Rockmore's "Night Music," interior panels with text and photographs of Bukowski and Rockmore. A hort tear to the wrapper near the crown and slight toning to the spine. The interior of the book appears virtually unread with all four Rockmore illustrations and tissue guards bound in. Wraparound band with some tears (and amateur tape repairs). Bukowski's 6th book, including all new poems selected from 326 pieces submitted to the publishers between 1963-1965. Krumhansl 15. With an excellent inscription to fellow American poet Karl Shapiro, "Kid, it's a hell of a hard game" First edition, signed limited issue, one of 3,100 copies signed and dated by the author (in this instance in orange ink on 17/03/1965), this copy further inscribed on the title page to Karl Shapiro with a little ink sketch. The inscription reads, "For Karl Shapiro - Kid, it's a hell of a hard game - living, dying, reading, bleeding, singing - what the fuck - it's hang and hold - Hello, Charles Bukowski".
