From the library of Julian Goldsmid, a British lawyer, businessman and Liberal politician. He sat in the House of Commons between 1866 and 1896. He inherited Somerhill House, Tonbridge, Kent upon the death of his father. These books are from the Somerhill library as indicated from the bookplates to front pastedowns. Julian Goldsmid's name label to front boards. This novel was written by Charles Henry Ross, an English writer and cartoonist. It follows his popular Pretty Widow. He wrote six novels in total ranging from Gothic 'penny dreadfuls' to light romances. In half calf bindings with gilt stamped detailing to spines.
