Description:
New York: Cassell & Co, 1888. Revised. Hardcover. Very Good. Large ocatvo hardcover 8" x 10" in navy blue cloth handsomely decorated and lettered in gilt and silver with image of a sailing vessel front cover. "New and Revised Edition". 200 pp. Profusely illustrated through out with line drawings and engravings. A tight example, all gilt bright, bit of rubbing to the extremities. One of nicer such volumes of the late 19th century featuring a history of yachting in America from the early days of the New York Yacht Club, established 1854, to the 1870s, then the International Period (1871-1885). With additional contributions on the Mayflower and Galetea races of 1886; American steam yachting; British yachting; and the American yachting seasons of 1886 and 1887. Interestingly, two letters from book shops are laid in---one dated 1935 from the Cheswick Book Shop in New York advising that they have a related book in stock (" Old Ship Figure-Heads and Sterns") that they note was published in 1925 at $75 and… Read More
