A series of papers produced for the Joint Planning Staff of the War Cabinet in 1940-41 on subjects ranging from Resistance to Invasion, submitted by the author, the only civilian ever to be commissioned directly into the Joint Planning Staff, each introduced by giving the background to its writing as well as some contemporary personal anecdotes, Book is very good++ and bright. The wrapper is near very good with rubbing, nicks and creasing to edges. Spine age toned. Small loss to spine top and corners. A few small closed tears to edges. Uncommon signed. Book is in Very Good condition, with bumping to corners, couple of long scuff lines on rear cover board, light spot of soiling at top of front cover board. Prior owner bookplate on front endpaper. Just jacket is in Very Good- condition, with light edgewear, mostly at top of front cover, some age-tanning, some creasing at spine edges and corners. Now in Brodart dust jacket protector.

Laid in is a 17 line typed letterfrom Wheatley to Thomas Joy managing director of Hatchards of Londonforwarding this book for signature, plus a letter from Joy to a collector both letters dealing with this particular book.
