Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1867. Hardcover. Good. 10 Volumes, sold together. Likely incomplete as a set. Ticknor & Fields, 1867-1868 illustrated editions. Blue cloth bindings with "The [Dickens's signature] Edition" in gilt on front board, gilt titling on spine. Full page illustrated plates by Cruikshank, Leech, Phiz, and others (16 in the Christmas Books/Boz vol., 10 in three others, eight in the rest). All volumes in good condition. A few partial separations/gaps between signature, but bindings on the whole are firm and fully intact; gilt titling/decoration remains bright and bold; light to moderate amount of wear to edges of boards, some fraying of cloth at spine ends; very faint dust smudging to cloth, some very minor toning to spines. A handsome group for your shelves, featuring (most of) his classic works. Due to the size/weight of this set extra charges will apply for international and/or expedited shipping. 1842. First American Edition. New-York: J. Winchester, Publisher, November 1842. Original self-wrappers, bound into very early plain blue wrappers. "First American Edition" -- second impression. As first put forth in a 1975 article by Peter Bracher and (soon) to be confirmed in Walter Smith's upcoming bibliography, this edition (12-1/2 cents) was published at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 7, 1842 -- just TWO HOURS before the "Brother Jonathan Extra" edition (12-1/2 cents) managed to get out on the streets. Harper got its edition (12-1/2 cents) out by early or mid-afternoon on the following day (Tuesday the 8th), and Lea & Blanchard of Philadelphia had an edition (first 25 cents, then 12-1/2) on the streets by Wednesday the 9th.
