Description:
New York: Viking Press, 1938. First Printing. Very good/good. Large 8vo, cloth in dust jacket, book very good with light toning to cloth and mild spottiness, jacket good with some chipping, stains, soil and creasing and rubbing along spine. INSCRIBED: "To Brave Nute, the Waterlot Toreador, Wille Pene du Bois, Bermuda 1945" with nicely done drawing in ink and colors of a small boy dressed as an Indian (with some swastikas, too) cavorting around a small campfire, holding a wicked bottle of green stuff in one hand, and a glass of whatever it is in the other. A rare book with such an inscription by the beloved author of "The 21 Balloons" and other great children's books. Du Bois was already an established author at the age of 20 when he published this.
