He also took the opportunity to visit other Middle Easter countries and there are chapters on Cairo, Tehran, Bagdad, Athens and Istanbul. The author’s personal inscription is to ‘Pug’ Ismay, Winston Churchill's chief military assistant during the Second World War, and the first Secretary General of NATO from 1952 to 1957.
