He attended Westminster school and is reported to have briefly been at Oxford. He published the first of his 36 books, mostly on railway subjects, at the age of 21. In a blue cloth binding with gilt title detailing to the spine, with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, generally smart with just minor shelfwear; bumping to the extremities, a little fading to the spine, and a few small marks to boards.
