E-260: Random House. Very Good in Fair dust jacket. 1952. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Hardcover. 8vo. Random House, New York. 1952. 439 pgs. Signed and inscribed by Ralph Ellison to literary critic Robert Langham on the titile page. First Edition/Fourth Printing. DJ has shelf-wear present (edges of the DJ is chipped and worn with a removed spine label present, missing the rear flap, front flap detached and trimmed down) Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities Text is free of marks. Binding tight and solid. We rely, in this world, on the visual aspects of humanity as a means of learning who we are. This, Ralph Ellison argues convincingly, is a dangerous habit. A classic from the moment it first appeared in 1952, Invisible Man chronicles the travels of its narrator, a young, nameless black man, as he moves through the hellish levels of American intolerance and cultural blindness. Description:
A signed, first editon/first printing of Ellison's most important work, with the iconic dust jacket design of E. Mcknight-Kauffer. Dust jacket is good, unclipped with some chipping and loss, now protected in archival mylar. Front and rear boards beneath jacket show some light foxing/water staining, priced accordingly. Interior is clean and binding is tight. A scarce first printing, made even more so by Ellison's signature. Presents very nicely with dust jacket.Ellison's only novel published during his lifetime, Invisible Man touches on the social, philosophical, and political experiences of African-Americans in the early 20th century, notable for its use of absurdism and Black existentialism. It won the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction in 1953.

New York: Random House, 1952. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good in Archival Plastic. A wonderful First Edition, First Printing (so stated) of Ralph Ellison's classic work, signed and dated by the author on the title page, "Ralph Ellison, April 4, 1986." In beige and black cloth with white titling, the book is in near fine condition with a slight lift to the beige cloth on the spine and slight loss of lettering, light spotting on the black topstain and age toning to the pages. But still a solid near fine first with "A.B." on the bottom of the copyright page as required. The very good dustjacket is complete with the original price ($3.50) and the colorful panels as well as the cream panels are bright. There is wear and splitting at the folds and minor loss at the spine ends. Also there is a quarter-size abrasion on the back panel and other minor wear on the dustjacket designed by E. McKnight Kauffer, but still very good. This important book is housed in a beautiful custom…
