Front free endpaper loose but included (hinges still strong). 1884 Hard Cover. viii, 309 pp. 8vo. Brown cloth gilt titles, gold, black, and dark brown decorations on spine and front board, decorated endpapers. A collection of poems by W.S. Gilbert, most well-known for his partnership with Arthur Sullivan in producing such works as H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. Originally published in a periodical called 'Fun', and later re-released in two volumes entitled The Bab Ballads and More Bab Ballads. Released here in one volume for the first time.

Circa 1890's (the book is undated, but the year 1895 is written on the front end paper); George Routledge and Sons; New York and London. The book features 215 illustrations by the author. Complete in one volume, including the "Bab Ballads" and "More Bab Ballads." The book is a collection of light, comical verses written in Gilbert's "topsy-turvy" style in which the humor is derived by setting up a ridiculous premise and working out its logical consequences, however absurd.Condition:Clean front cover; some light staining to the back cover; the gilt lettering on the spine has mostly faded; the top and bottom edges of the spine are worn. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are clean with only a few random, light smudges; name/date (1895) written in pen on the front end paper; there is an ink stain at the top corner at the hinge between 2 front blank end papers. Overall the book is in very good condition.
