With 23 woodcuts and a facsimile of the title page of the 1597 English edition. Original publisher's vellum-backed patterned paper boards, lettered in gilt, T.E.G., others uncut. Lightly rubbed, corners bumped. Internally immaculate. A remarkably handsome edition of Boccaccio's greatest poem and unquestionably the best of his minor works. This edition unites the Elizabethan English translation with the woodcuts created for a lost fifteenth-century Italian edition . Quarto.

R. for William Blackman dwelling nere the great North Doore of Paules. Bound in quarter velum with gilt ruling and velum tips to corners. Gilt lettering to spine. Decorated boards. Top edge gilt. Woodcuts recut by Fritz Kredel and printed in Griffo type on the hand press in 225 copies on hand-made Fabriano paper. Il Ninfale Fiesolano was written about 1344 - 1346 and was translated out of Tuscan into French by Anthony Guerin and out of French into English by John Goubourne for the first English edition. Edited by R. H. Boothroyd from the only surviving copy of the edition of 1597. postscript by Hans Mardersteig, Verona, 1952. 23 woodcuts. Near fine. A little very light soiling to velum. Previous owner's bookplate to ffep and initials & date to front paste down. Lacking slipcase.
