The binding is tight and boards still firmly attached. *Author lived with the Schuyler Family for a time in upstate New York.

This book by Scottish-born Anne MacVicar Grant (1755-1838) includes both her recollections of her childhood (ages 3 through 13) years that she lived with her parents in colonial Claverack and Oswego, New York, and her memoir of Madam Catalina Schuyler with whom she lived in Albany. Anne's father Duncan MacVicar was an officer in the British army who had been posted to "the colonies" during the years leading up to what was to become the American Revolution. The family's trip back to Scotland in 1868 was meant to be temporary, but Duncan's pro-British sentiments led him to make it permanent. Anne's portrayal of New York pre-revolutionary colonial life between 1758 and 1768 was admired by both Sir Walter Scott and Robert Southey.
