This is a near-perfect First Edition of Act One, An Autobiography of Moss Hart, by the American playwright, screenwriter and director Moss Hart (1904-1961). Hart is best known as the writer of A Star is Born (1954), the director of My Fair Lady (1956) and, with George S. Kaufman, the writer of numerous successful plays, including You Can't Take it With You (1936), for which he won the Pulitzer Prize.
As you can see, the dust jacket of this book is not in great shape.
444 unadorned pages. The front endpapers are brown paper.
The book itself is nearly perfect (it includes a leaf someone pressed into it). Its only flaw is a tiny fold to the upper right corner, which is from improper storage. Other than that, it is in pristine condition.

Cream, textured cloth with red/black title panel and gilt lettering to the spine. This copy is VG in a VG, unclipped ( $5.00) DJ designed by Sam Marsh and dated "9/59" ( First State with Author portrait on back cover by Steve Douglas). Exterior is modestly sunned to the spine, but edges, tips, and spine ends have only a hint of wear. Inside is unmarked ( save for a stamp on the FEP " File Copy Editorial Department" ) . That same stamp is on the front of the DJ. Red EPs. Top page edges dyed gray. Firmly bound with minimal toning to text block. DJ is moderately chipped across front top and spine top--very little wear elsewhere- and modestly sunned to the spine. Back cover portrait is especially nice. .
