Description:
U.S.A.: Appleton, 1941. First American Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. From the collection of Adrian and M. B. Goldstone--and signed in pencil to the front free endpaper by Goldstone--who along with his brother--who was Steinbeck's bibliographer--were well known collectors early detective and western fiction. Also signed by Ellery Queen (Frederic Dannay) by his photograph on page 167. This copy is in near fine condition with only light age toning ---or would be fine. Published on the 100th anniversary of the detective story (first one was by Poe)--this book covers a "who's who" of detection literature. From "The Murders In The Rue Morgue" to 1941---Haycraft brilliantly chronicles the art form. A great collectible copy.
