Pierre Jeannin was a 16th-century French politician and financier who is best known for taking part in the negotiations of the Treaty of Lyon and the alliance between France and the Netherlands as well as the Edict of Nantes. He built himself a reputation mediating negotiations which led him to his most important negotiation establishing peace between King Louis XIII and Marie de' Medici.
This book is a fine printing of Jeannin's 'Negotiations' was published in Amsterdam in 1695.

Paris: Pierre Le Petit, 1656., 1656. folio. pp. 6 p.l., 757, [11]. engraved frontis. portrait by Nantueil. engraved title vignette. woodcut ornaments & initials. contemporary blind-paneled vellum (covers bowed, front joint repaired). First Edition. A pupil of the great jurist Jacques Cujas, Jeannin was an advocate before becoming councillor and then president of the parlement of Burgundy. In 1595 he became councillor to Henry IV and in 1603 was named intendant of finances. He participated in all of the major events of the reign, negotiated the treaty of Lyons with the duke of Savoy, and the defensive alliance between France and the United Netherlands in 1608. After the death of Henry IV in 1610, the queen, Marie de Médici, appointed him superintendent of finances. Most of the correspondence here dates from the period 1607 to 1610. On pp. 553-56 is a letter of January 25, 1609, from Jeannin to the King, relating to the search for a northern passage to the east. Brunet III 525.. F.
