Bound in purple cloth, with clipped dw, 40 b/w plates, 122 in-text figures, 198pp. The author aimed to establish certain basic principles on which graphic artists can work. He explains at length the beginnings of commercial printing, the effect of photography on graphic reproduction, the growth of advertising and the commercial art studio. The work of William Morris, the Arts and Crafts movement and the private presses are also discussed. DW has been repaired.
